Rhinoplasty
The nose is crucial to the face, even small changes can give desirable results. Shape and size are genetically conditioned. In case of full nasal surgery, it may be necessary to make a smaller nasal surgery as a supplement. Usually it includes the tip of the nose. Common requests include lowering of the nose back, reduction of the nose tip and shortening of the nose. We use several different methods, depending on your individual wishes and conditions.
Operation
In most cases, the incisions are placed inside the nose opening. Most often this is combined with a single cut on the outside. You and the surgeon will come to discuss the placements.
The operation is usually carried out with anesthesia and takes about one to two hours. When your surgery is complete, your nose will be taped to attach to the new bone and cartilage that has been changed through the surgery. Sometimes an outer band of hard-formable material is placed over the tape, a so-called rail for six to seven days. This helps to reduce swelling and helps the form of the nose.
Complications and risks
Differences between people make the healing process not equal to all. In case of bleeding and swelling it may take longer to heal which, in turn, can lead to not perfect results and a second operation may then be required. In all surgical procedures, infection may occur, but because the blood supply in the nose is abundant, this is unusual. In such cases, it is treated with antibiotics. Failure of feeling the nose on touch may disappear for a few months, but will usually return.
Convalescence / after surgery
After surgery you should lie and rest for at least a couple of hours with your head raised. This to reduce bleeding and swelling. Once the anesthesia has been wears off, the pain is usually relieved with lighter analgesics.
After surgery, a certain nasal congestion may occur for about six weeks. Blisters and swelling around the eyes are not completely unusual and usually disappear during the coming week. After about seven to ten days, you will return to the clinic, as the stitch and the rail will be removed. Physical activities such as sports should be avoided in the next four weeks. You should avoid poking in the nose or blow it hard as this may lead to nasal bleeding.
Blood crusts in the nostrils can be removed by moistening cotton swabs with lukewarm water and gently dissolving them. Even the petroleum jelly can be lubricated and help to remove blood clots in the nostrils.
The result of the operation can not be fully estimated until all swelling has subsided after approximately six to twelve months.
